The media are an important component of the modern information space, providing instant access to a wide range of data. The renewed escalation of the Palestinian issue — the conflict in the Gaza Strip in October 2023 — was immediately reflected in global news coverage. Numerous demonstrations soon emerged in support of the Palestinians, where the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” appeared on posters and banners. This phrase was quickly picked up by various media outlets and provoked a wave of discussions combining both criticism and interpretation of its meaning.
The purpose of this article is to examine the history of the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and its political dimension based on analysis of foreign media sources. The study concludes that the slogan has a history of more than half a century, its emergence linked to key historical events such as the 1947 UN Partition Plan for Palestine, the Nakba, and the 1967 Six-Day War. Special attention is given to the perception of this phrase and its conceptual significance in contemporary political and media discourse.
