In the research article, the author provides an analysis of the challenges and threats to Iranian national security in the energy sector, and suggests ways to reduce energy security risks. The research article surveys the state of Iran’s energy security, provides an assessment of the country’s energy profile. In addition, the author highlights the importance of international energy cooperation, and underlines the strengthening Iran’s role as an energy power amid world economic growth shift to the Asia-Pacific region. The author assesses the Iranian gas industry unlocking the potential, the possibilities of bilateral technological cooperation in the energy sector, which may trigger Iran to become a powerful global energy and logistics hub. The author further points out to ITC ‘North-South’ (that is being formed with an active involvement of Russia and Iran) turning into a viable fully-fledged transport artery of the Eastern Hemisphere, capable to capture the Russian and Iranian export competitiveness in the growing Asian markets.
