This article examines the Soviet Union’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations in the Middle East during the Cold War and analyses its relevance to contemporary peacekeeping. Despite existing issues, peacekeeping remains a vital part of international politics, particularly given ongoing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East. Many countries, including Russia, continue to value international peacekeeping as a means of strengthening their position on the world stage. Studying the experience of Soviet peacekeepers can provide valuable insights into current realities. Strengthening the role of the UN as a key player in conflict resolution would be in Russia’s interests. This would be the case if it intensified its participation in peacekeeping missions.
