Main Directions of Iran’s Policy in Middle East

Sazhin V.I.

Abstract

The article covers the Middle East strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the context of escalating regional tensions across several conflict zones. Iran’s Middle East policy is examined within the framework of adjusting the “Neither East nor West” principle in Iranian strategic orientation and the accelerated development of relations with centers of power in the non-Western world. The potential of the “Axis of Resistance” as an instrument of Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East is analyzed, with attention given to the type of connection between each element of the “Axis of Resistance” and Tehran. The article also explores the discontent of a segment of Iran’s population regarding the country’s active regional policy. Conclusions are drawn about the nature and prospects of Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East.
