Poland and the Middle East Crisis 2023–2024: Reaction of Polish Political Forces

Efremenko D.V., Norboev B.N.

Abstract

This research analyzes the reaction of Polish political forces to the acute conflict between Hamas and Israel that began on October 7, 2023. The paper examines how this conflict has influenced Poland’s domestic and foreign policy, particularly in the context of the migration crisis, the rise of antisemitic sentiments in Europe, and broader issues of regional and international security. The authors explore the political, historical, and social factors that have shaped the positions of various Polish parties in response to developments in the Middle East. The study also highlights how Polish political forces have addressed challenges related to international security and migration flows, which have become increasingly relevant amid the events in the Gaza Strip. Special attention is given to the dynamics of shifting positions of Polish political parties — from early expressions of sympathy toward Israel to the emergence of pro-Palestinian attitudes following the death of a Polish volunteer and subsequent events, including the escalation between Israel and Iran. The authors conclude that Poland’s political response to international conflicts reflects a complex interplay of internal and external pressures as well as deeply ideological approaches.
