Problems of Yemeni Socio-Political Regionalization

Kyrchanoff M.W., Androsova J.S.

Abstract

The article examines the historical background, social factors, and prospects of the regionalization process in Yemen. The study analyzes the role and significance of political, social, and historical factors, as well as the main directions of regionalization processes in the country. It concludes that the process of regionalization in Yemen has deep historical roots: in the second half of the 20th century, two forms of statehood based on different political and ideological legitimations coexisted within the country. The authors determine that social incentives have a significant impact on regionalization processes, since traditional and archaic pre-modern institutions and identities coexist with modern ones in Yemen. The article also outlines possible scenarios for the further development of regionalization processes, taking into account political, social, and external factors. It is assumed that these processes are the result of incomplete social and political modernization.
