International / Transboundary Rivers in Political Practices of Turkey, Syria and Iraq

Luchenkov I.R.

Abstract

The article examines the international political relations of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq in the context of combating the crisis of water scarcity and redistribution, as well as the agreements regulating the flow of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers among these countries. In this regard, it analyzes key sources of international law concerning the regulation of water relations. The study addresses the dichotomy between the concepts of international and transboundary rivers. Particular attention is given to the fundamental differences among Turkish, Syrian, and Iraqi legal and geographical schools specializing in the use and regulation of the Tigris and Euphrates water flows, which in turn give rise to significant legal conflicts between the states.
