Socio-Political Views of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Based on His Memoirs “The Path of the New Turkey”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the description of the socio-political portrait of the hero of the National Liberation War in Turkey and the first president of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, based on his memoirs published in the Soviet Union under the title “The Path of the New Turkey”. This edition is an expanded version of the famous Turkish “The Speech” of Ataturk, supplemented by personal letters and documents. The article analyzes Mustafa Kemal’s views on various aspects of the development of the state and society. At the same time, the object of the study was precisely the construct that the author broadcast in his public memoirs and statements addressed to the new Turkish society. The text of the “Speech” became not only a powerful foundation in the ideology of Kemalism, but also for a long time formed the basis of the Turkish historiography of the National Liberation War. The figure of Mustafa Kemal and his revolutionary socio-political views are still the subject of controversy and discussion in Turkish society, which intensified during the rule of the Justice and Development Party.
