Abstract

The article presents the results of analyzing the content of school history textbooks published in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The textbooks of Azerbaijan, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Ukraine are flooded with distorted historical information and contain politically biased assessments of various international events. There are clearly expressed Russophobic tendencies in the presentation of historical material. The historical period of residence of the peoples under consideration within the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union is perceived in most cases as forced. The role of Russia in uniting the peoples, forming and preserving their statehood is deliberately glossed over. Students’ attention is focused on the exclusive importance of their own state’s participation in international relations, which contributes to the formation of a nationalistic picture of the world, disunity of peoples and interethnic discord. The analyzed materials of the textbooks allow clearly ascertain the deepening of ideological rifts in the post-Soviet space.
