Central Asia and South Caucasus in Turkey’s Eurasian Integration

Zhigulskaya D.V., Tsvetkova A.S.

Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the key stages of the development of the Eurasian concept in Turkey, defines the place that Central Asia and the South Caucasus occupy in it. The paper also answers the question of whether Turkey’s newly increased interest in Eurasia is a choice in favor of the eastern direction in its foreign policy. The methodological basis of the work is the principles of objectivity and historicism. The development of this topic has not only theoretical, but also practical significance: in the era of the rearrangement of geopolitical forces in the international arena, the policy of “soft power” is becoming increasingly important, which Turkey is actively resorting to, using, among other things, various geopolitical and geoeconomic projects, one of which is the Eurasian integration project. However, Turkish Eurasianism, unlike Russian, has not received such development and has not formed original and well-established concepts and provisions. Today the concept of Eurasianism becomes a universal tool in the hands of public figures and politicians who seek to prove Turkey’s “exceptional geopolitical importance” in the global system of international relations. The results of the conducted research can be used in the work of relevant ministries, departments, analytical centers, as well as in the educational process of higher educational institutions.
